We are wondering if you have any insights into a clear, intuitive, visual way for health workers to show pregnant HIV+ women (mostly in Africa) the risks associated with different feeding option for their infants.
My colleagues and I have been working on different ways of conveying the risks to infants if the mother feeds infant formula (high mortality due to common illnesses), versus breastfeeding (small risk of HIV), versus breastfeeding and taking ARVs (what the World Health Organization is promoting as lowest risk, best outcome). There is a graphic that is currently used, but we have the opportunity to improve the current model.
We work with the Ministries of Health of 8 countries to improve the nutrition services for poor women and help their infants remain HIV-free. If anyone would be interested in thinking more about this, we would love to provide more information for brainstorming.
I put this to the people. Any takers?
