There is ignorant pessimism as well as ignorant optimism. The problem, if indeed there is one, is where we as a culture set the middle of this scale. It’s probably accurate to say we all expect too much without questioning our expectations, understanding our role in their pursuit or managing our relationship to what we do come across and that makes pessimism seem more realistic.
