This Is Why Republicans Hate Mass Transit
In case you often wonder, as I certainly do, why so many Republicans openly mock mass transit, this chart tells you pretty much everything you need to know: Republicans represent suburbia, Democrats represent cities.
Via Ezra Klein, this chart largely explains why sky-high unemployment hasn’t produced any real sense of urgency in our political class. It’s because unemployment is high among people who don’t vote and low among people who do. If the stock market were crashing or corporate profits were down, that would be one thing. But unemployment? It’s just not that big a deal.

If voting is sexy, then call me Diane Keaton!
So it’s a moving chart. Vote Easy is an online application that shows you how similar/dissimilar senate and house candidates are to you, based on your answer to twelve questions.
There are a whole bunch of charts throughout the piece:
- interest groups + ratings
- campaign finances (who’s donating, how much, where it goes)
- voting record
- how the candidate answered those same questions
- how many registered voters in your state actually voted during the last round
I think it’s an excellent example of an interactive chart that changes based on your answers, and it pulls real-time data from Vote Smart.
I hope you like it too!
